Zebrawood table
(a handmade table that sought inspiration from the African continent)
The Idea
We wanted to build a table that connects people….
The soul of this table is rooted in Karibu Sana, a Swahili phrase that means “You are very welcome”. When a family friend relocated to Tanzania, we asked her to find a local philosophy that communities truly live by. This table is a heartfelt tribute to that concept—designed to make guests, colleagues, and family feel accepted, seen, and deeply valued.
The Craftsmanship
• The Wood: Handcrafted from stunning and durable African Zebrano (Zebrawood), a dense, resilient, and distinctively textured wood that is beautifully tactile and highly durable.
• The Mosaic Legs: Table’s legs are constructed using 168 hand-finished pieces of varying shapes and sizes -each piece is unique. Meaningfully arranged as a wooden mosaic, they serve as a metaphor for how every unique individual contributes to the larger human story.
• Built to Last: Every step of the construction was unhurried and precise. The solid (4 cm) thick top is protected with a premium finish of Tung oil and Osmo oil, while four heavy-duty iron U-profiles are seamlessly integrated into the underside to prevent natural curving and cracking over time.
